pimp tax

How exactly do you file W-2s for your illegal employees?

... and apparently it's a "no brainer." Clearly.

You file your W-2 like you would normally. If they've got a Social Security number, and they are fine workers, then most people just tend to look the other way. My dad's company hires illegal immigrants (he doesn't do the actual hiring, but he runs the W-2s), and that's what they do.

It is hilarious that they're all, "This will help us identify pimps and put them in jail!" Like, pimping is already illegal, guys. And while it might not have been obvious that Al Capone was rumrunning just by looking at him, if you spot a man in a red leather fedora, a hand full of blood diamonds, and a full length fur coat in the middle of July, he is a pimp. Arrest him.

The argument is that the particular proposal would allow them to go after pimps more easily and effectively. It's fairly easy to identify, prosecute, and convict prostitues; and ridiculously difficult to do the same for pimps. By creating a criminal offense (which is what this law would do), there would be a cut-and-dry set of evaluations to determine whether someone is breaking the law. Under the table income is illegal, so this would be one way to get a handle on the issue -- if a pimp doesn't file an appropriate claim, the IRS can investigate his source of income, which can then be prosecuted as a white collar crime, which is much simpler.

I don't like the propsal myself, because it sets up the scenario for entrapment laws. And, there aren't standards within the sex worker industry in the first place. The government DOES need to end the exploitation of women and children, but needs to do so while protecting the rights of legal adults capable of making their own choices.

because jailing them for tax evasion is so much simpler than jailing them for the illegal act of prostitution and pimping, which apparently is so mindbogglingly complex they had to sit around and think up this gem of an idea...

i think my brain cows just jumped over the moon
